Business Networking – what shall I talk about?

Simply Business Coaching

Business NetworkingI’m giving a short (very short at only 10 minutes) talk at a new networking group of local business owners later this week on the subject of networking, and have been trying to decide what to include that will be of most interest and use to them.

Should I only talk about traditional networking? But I have to mention networking online as they’ll have at least heard of it.

And if I do mention social networking, where do I start? Perhaps more importantly where do I stop?!

Do I concentrate on the common networking mistakes people make – like trying to sell within 30 seconds of meeting you? Or should I just give them a list of ‘Must Dos’?

Will I have time to get across my favourite message about the need for building relationships – you know, how the most important part of networking happens after the live events?

Shall I tell them why the best ‘elevator pitches’ are those which have been properly constructed, carefully crafted and thoroughly rehearsed?

I’m fast coming to the conclusion that preparing for such a short talk is a lot more difficult than putting together a whole day’s workshop – especially when there’s so much I want to share!

What would you include? What would you leave out?

Social Media is Changing Who Our Customers Are

Simply Business Coaching

When I was growing up, married women still tended to defer to their husbands for major household purchases (or at least they pretended to).  I can even remember applying for a bank loan to buy my first car and being asked if my husband should sign the form (innocently I replied “Why? it’s going to be my car!”)  Fortunately things have changed considerably since then and now women are involved in and can make just as many buying decisions as they wish.  (8th March 2011 is the International Women’s Day Centenary)

But, just watch a few TV ads today and it’s noticable how advertising media mostly still uses the traditional demographics and psychographics model, probably because they’re not sure how to move on from it.

In this short video, Johanna Blakley makes some interesting observations on how social media continues to influence and change the ways in which we can best attract our target clients.

Is social media changing your marketing model?

How do you make tough decisions?

Action Coaching

I came across a great article in Bloomberg Businessweek detailing the story of Panera Bread Founder Ronald M. Shaich. Shaich made a huge decision to focus on the growth of Panera Bread despite the fact that other companies under his corporate umbrella, like Au Bon Pain, were more profitable at the time.

Shaich knew that Panera was a franchise that had the possibility of exponential growth but some big changes had to be made to experience that kind of growth.

So where did Shaich find the setting to make such a major decision? He made it while was on vacation.

“I make my best decisions when I’m on vacation. You’re not focused on all the stuff that comes at you,” Shaich said.

The goal of every business owner should be finding balance while creating a profitable commercial enterprise that works, without them. When you have to make decisions in a pressured environment, the choices made can lead to greater problems down the road.

I’ve found taking a step back and finding a calm and quiet place to work out any major decision has helped me through the years.

When it comes time to make a big decision at ActionCOACH, I do my due diligence and then let the factors play in my head as I choose the right course.

Making major decisions during a tumultuous workday can be counter- productive. Sometimes there’s simply too much going on to come to a rational decision.

If I can make those decisions when I have time to consider all the possibilities, I’ve found those choices are much stronger and tend to hold up better over time.

So how do you make your big decisions? Do you have a process? Do you treat big decision differently than smaller ones? Tell me what you think…

Online Video Marketing Tips for Your First Video Marketing Sequence

Small Business Marketing Business Speakers Business Coaching | Coach

Today on our small business marketing blog we are going to talk about a couple Online Video Marketing Tips  for your Video Marketing Sequence.

The other day I was starting an online video marketing project for a major yearly event for a community in Florida.

So, I decided to share these three online video marketing tips because these are the key tips for making first video in a profitable video marketing sequence.

Tip # 1. Make sure the person you have as your video personality or advocate for your campaign is someone who your target audience can relate with. This is important in  building trust with your video marketing message. If your target market was a group of business motivational speakers, you might want to have a motivational business speaker give the talk on the video. It’s really that simple.

Tip #2. Treat your first online video like a headline in a sales letter.
You can do this by focusing your first video on getting the attention of our viewers, creating a USP with your message and building curiosity for the videos that will follow.

Tip #3. Get some kind of commitment from your viewers.
You accomplish two things when you get a commitment like an email opt-in, a [like] on your Facebook page, a subscription to your Youtube Channel or a new follower on twitter.

First, the more little steps you can get your prospects to take, the more likely they are to take the step of buying from you. Second, the more channels you can get your prospects to subscribe to you, the more likely they are to keep watching your online marketing videos because they will see them in more than one place.

Tip #4. Have a focus on sharing.
If your videos are entertaining or have uniquely important content, they are more likely to be shared by your target audience. Remember in your online video marketing that its okay to ask them to share. Just make sure you know why your target market should share the video and then remind them of the reasons why it’s a good idea to share it.
